Lasair Dhearg welcome the decision by De La Salle College to remove PSNI communiqué.
Following direct conversations with the principle of De La Salle college and highlighting the issue of the school being used as a proxy, Lasair Dhearg welcome the decision by the school to remove all PSNI material featured on their website.
The issue was raised by a number of parents of pupils attending the school and was in relation to a letter from PSNI Constables Jack McDonald and Brian Carroll that appeared on the De La Salle websites homepage.
Lasair Dhearg spokesperson Pádraic Mac Coitir said that “this is a positive outcome for all concerned and we welcome the responsible decision taken by De La Salle. Schools should be neutral spaces where our youth are given the opportunity to learn and develop, free from the interference of outside bodies only interested to exploit for their political gain.
As I said previously, the PSNIs aim is a selfish one and they shouldn’t be welcomed anywhere in our community. The engagements with the PSNIs gunmen, and their agents, in schools not only pose a safety risk but is also a question of ethics. It is deplorable that the PSNI are using local schools as part of its process of normalisation to undermine internal relations within republican communities.
I have spoken to those parents who have raised concerns through us and they are happy with the outcome. We encourage all local schools, community and youth groups to be conscious of the PSNIs wider agenda of exploiting our community and we will continue to challenge and highlight that exploitation at every opportunity.”
