The removal of the “Triple Lock” mechanism moves the Twenty Six County State one step closer to joining British & US militarism.
For many years now, the military neutrality of the Twenty Six Counties has been the target of a sustained attack by an alliance between the Dublin government, the EU and a force of NATO lobbyists.
Their goal is to undermine, through a campaign of well coordinated lies, the overwhelming support of the Irish public for a policy that has kept, for the most part, working class men and women from dying on foreign battlefields.
The Fine Fáil/Fine Gael government now seek to strike the fatal blow with the recent announcement that they will scrap the “Triple Lock” mechanism, under the pretence that it allows Russia to have a veto over Irish foreign policy, a statement that is grossly misleading and ignores the fact that Great Britain and the United States have the same powers.
This mechanism, which was introduced in the aftermath of the rightful rejection of the Treaty of Nice in 2001, requires the approval of the United Nations General Assembly or the Security Council, the Government of the Twenty Six County State and Leinster House before Free State troops will be deployed to a “peacekeeping” mission.
Many people may remember that the same alliance now targeting Irish neutrality were at the forefront of a massive campaign of lies that later led to a second referendum on the Nice Treaty passing. The fears of the public at the time, that it would lead to a weakening of neutrality and closer integration with EU military forces, have proven correct.
The capitalist backed media have whipped up a Russophobic hysteria, and with the Government in Dublin secretly meeting with NATO lobbyists, it is clear that the removal of the “Triple Lock” mechanism will open the door to the forces of Western imperialism to coerce Irish men and women to fight and die on the slaughter fields of Ukraine as part of an EU “Peacekeeping” force.
This same force will include the British forces occupying a significant portion of Ireland, who have murdered countless Irish people over the centuries, and who would once again be only too happy to have them fight and die for their gain.

As the Dublin government continues to give the thumbs up to the bankrolling of weapons of war, we remain steadfast in our belief that the only way to safeguard the interests of the Irish working class is by ending the systems of capitalism and imperialism and through the establishment of a Socialist Republic encompassing all of Ireland’s Thirty Two counties.
