MLA Wages: Stormont IS Working. But for who?
Recent media reports have highlighted that fewer than half of Stormont MLA’s are using the pay rise donation processes that they set up.
MLA’s created the process whereby a pay rise they were in receipt of, but supposedly could not turn down, could instead be donated back into the public good or to charity.
Following it’s creation, and the contentious £1,000 pay rise, less than half of MLA’s have made the contribution.
The Stormont gravy-train now awards elected Six County representatives a whopping £51,000 each per annum, following what was effectively two pay rises since the start of 2020. This brought an MLA’s wage to more than £15,000 more than nurses on average.
